The long wait is almost over, as October 1st means I am fully upgrade eligible on Sprint.
Initially I was locked in to the Palm Pre after following it’s launch announcement earlier this year, but then the Hero was officially announced by Sprint a few weeks ago and I was immediately intrigued. Since then I’ve been going back and forth between the two phones.
A big deciding factor was going to be if the Hero could be activated on my SERO line. It would have been a no-brainer to pick the Hero, in that case. But, it looks like it won’t be eligible according to the new Hero splash page. Now, I am back to the drawing board.
So, Pre or Hero?
What needs to happen for me to get a Pre:
- A solid app store rollout tomorrow. I would be encouraged by a massive release of new apps and a solid plan for moving forward. It sounds like that could be the case, based on recent reports.
- Some kind of timeline for video recording.
- Love that the Pre costs less ($149 vs $179), but maybe a sale at Best Buy would make it even more enticing.
Pros for the Pre
- Faster processor
- More storage
- Price
- Physical keyboard (had a Centro and using an old Treo now, so more familar with the physical keyboard.)
- Lower price
Pros for the Hero
- Better camera
- Lots more apps
- Flash support
- Expandable memory
- Video recording
