As Jason Fried posted at SvN, I was wondering about super delegates myself the other day… seems like a scam to me. Definitely not democratic!
From an MSNBC article on super delegates:
Voters don’t choose the 842 unpledged “super-delegates” who comprise nearly 40 percent of the number of delegates needed to clinch the Democratic nomination.
So 40% of the primary is determined by ‘votes’ that are out of the hands of actual voters through an actual voting process? That is insane. Makes the primaries even more of a sham than they already are… it’s a horse race, for one, and then this system, which according to the article is supposed to be a safety valve for ‘radical’/’detrimental’/’not highly regarded’ views winning the populist vote. Crazy.
Shouldn’t the people determine the direction of the leadership? Isn’t that what a democracy is? Voters elect leaders. Not “voters sort of elect leaders, as long as they are satisfactory to the leaders who have already been elected.”
Anyway, it makes me want to vote even more than I already do. Get out and vote tomorrow!

I recently heard that neither Democrat candidate can win the election on the remaining state primaries. Thus, we have the “super delegates” electing the candidate. So, once again, the big party officials like the blathering Howard Dean will select who they want and the voters have no say.
It’s fun to watch the Democrat party crash and burn!!!
Posted 17 Apr 2008 at 12:27 pm ¶Don’t really think it will be an issue unless the super delegates go against the will of the people. Possible, I guess, but unlikely.
And, as far as crash and burn goes, the Repubs have been doing such a fantastic job the last 8 years, I think the Dems will be hard pressed to meet up with them at the bottom of the heap. Although I do wish this primary season was over already. It’s way too long.
